I’m probably the last person to watch Furious Seven, but seeing the Caprice that Tej and Rome ride in in the tail end of the film has given me a positively delicious idea.
Look at it. It’s like the demon love child of a Caprice cop car and an 80’s dirt track or stock car.
Hotchkis suspension, some slot mags and a built Olds 455. Don’t say LS, I may own a GM product now, but that don’t change much. Maybe I’ll put one my fathers extra Ford 429’s in there.

LEXUS V8 SWAP.

I like this.

Find me one.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:14 |

And the wheel lips are just rusty enough for me not to feel terrible about cutting them off. Just don’t tell G Body Man.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:14 |

I highly approve. Although I am curious about the use of a 455, as it is far costlier than an LSx.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:16 |

I fully support this wonderful idea.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:17 |

But it’s not an LS. And I know people.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:17 |

That’s fine by me. Remember rule #1 of car builds - Nothing’s Sacred.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:17 |

I still haven’t seen it.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:17 |

Fair enough.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:17 |

Actually, he approves. Go figure.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:18 |

This should be a thing, and yeah, no LS nonsense.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:20 |
|
Now I need a cheap suspension upgrade, some slot mags and a gnarly big block.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:22 |
|
Or a rotary. You could so do a rotary swap.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:22 |
|
I wouldn’t go that far. But I get the idea. I want to build a car that would theoretically get me on Big Muscle if I lived in California.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:24 |
|
Interesting idea, but, wrong car for that. I need TORQUE. Ill gladly put a rotor in my Capri though.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:25 |

Ahh, a kindred soul. Any ideas for a gnarly mill? Olds big block? Twin turbo V6? A Ford engine? Hehehehe.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:27 |

An old friend in London had a ‘49 Mercury truck with an Olds 455 and Muncie M21 in it before he passed away a few years ago. Old school hotrod. He called it the Go’Fer, a chop top Mercury M-1.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:28 |

Since you don’t want an LS, you could maybe go Coyote or Ford 302
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:30 |
|
Yes. So much this. The 4.0 Lexus V8 is absolutely beautiful.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:31 |
|
A Coyote would be cool, but out of my price range. Way out. For now. A junk yard engine is the way to go for me. As for the 302, my van has one, of my father’s Capri’s has one, and there’s a good chance my Capri may end up with one. It’s stupid, but I like variety. Know any interesting GM motors?
WAIT. I got it.
Diesel.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:33 |

Hack it up as much as you want, man. If fenders need to be cut for stuff to fit, just cut the fenders. It’s worth $2k in absolutely mint condition, so I’m pretty sure you can afford to cut it up.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:33 |

Cummins swap that thing. Roll coal all the way. And make big power.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:39 |

That’s awesome.

![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:45 |

Not a bad plan! Looks like it’s in good enough shape to be worthy of such TLC, too. It’d be fun to skip the Mags and make a sleeper out of it IMO.
That pic reminds me of my old Delta 88 (same year, brown too). Alas, it’s long gone now...
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:47 |

You’re in Canada. There’s probably an importer who can hook you up.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 22:55 |

The one in the movie has an LS

This car actually belonged to a fellow Opponaut before me as well. GBodyMan. As for the mags, since I’m doing g it on a budget, it’ll have some old Oldsmobile Rally wheels for the first while.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:07 |
|
And it’s sensible because they came with diesels from the factory!
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:08 |
|
Yeah, but mine won't.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:11 |

Big bucks man. Not gonna happen unless it’s a Jalopnik funded project car hahaha.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:11 |
|
To keep it “light”
Single turbo Buick V6, a la GNX.
5 or 6 cylinder Atlas motor.
Built Quad-4.
Or not
Nasty Olds 455 or 460 Ford with a tunnel ram and velocity stacks.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:13 |
|
Hmmmm.....Not for everybody obviously. You just want a neat car to drive around in? Leave whatever is in it.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:13 |
|
I like all of these ideas. Especially the Atlas and Quad four. Because I have no idea what they are. A built big block would be mean as hell.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:14 |
|
Weren’t those horrible though?
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:14 |

It’s a 300’000 km 305. Probably not long for this world.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:18 |
|
Oh complete garbage. I saw one eject a cylinder head at speed once. I’m saying put a Duramax in it and roll coal. Everyone thinks it’s a crappy Olds 350 Diesel but oh no.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:18 |
|
The big question is whats the budget and hp/tq goal.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:22 |
|
There really isn’t a power goal, it’ll always be changing anyways, as for the budget, it’s shoe string. Junkyard diving, swap meets, craigslist.

Save yo money
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:24 |

GM Atlas were pretty awesome 2000’s inline 5 and 6 motors
The 4.2L I6 (LL8) made 290hp
The 3.7L I5 (LLR) made 242hp
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_M…
The quad-4 was a pretty impressive GM motor too. The W41 made 190hp naturally aspirated in 1991. There are 1000hp turbo builds.

![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:27 |

Whoa. That 5 cylinder is what they put in the Canyon that sounds like a Lamborghini?
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:30 |
|
It’s a good watch man.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:34 |

You know, the Atlas idea is neat. I have one, while its no hot rod, it does fine at around ~300/300. Can probably find a complete engine trans and harness for a decent price.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:37 |
|
Yep, it was a factory option. A lot of people disliked it because it isn’t very smooth.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:55 |
|
That is an idea I need to follow. If not for the Olds then another project.
![]() 12/13/2015 at 23:56 |
|
But it was a pickup that sounded like a Diablo! Very cool.
![]() 12/14/2015 at 00:00 |
|
Probably more Gallardo than Diablo, but yeah. Anyway, you have options. (I want to build an Atlas with individual throttle bodies).

![]() 12/14/2015 at 00:08 |

Turbo 4200 Atlas FTW, although I’d go naturally aspirated with individual throttle bodies.
